The Spanish painter Velasquez made a painting called “the Surrender of Breda”, depicting general Spinola capturing the Dutch city of Breda in 1625. However, few know that the Dutch actually reoccupied the city some years later with a fuel ship that hid some fighters entering the city walls in a Trojan Horse kind of fashion.

When I lived in Breda in the 90-ies this event was still being celebrated, amongst others by people rafting the city-canals that surround the old city walls. Here you see me on a sunny dayOn the above photograph I am celebrating this event with my then friends, rafting the canals while being dressed up historically.

Living in London I missed my friends and this enjoyable moment. Therfore I made installation with a life-size enlargement of this image and a photocamera reliving the moment time and again.
